I Remember
                                      ----- Aiman Abdullah

There was a mud squelch
Blushes of red, brown and soot.
But that was eons ago.

My neighbour says he has a crater
Deep and huge.
He was once lush.
Now the grass never grows

My neighbours beyond the wall says
Beneath it are bones.
And once there were chunks and putrid flesh
Now the few carpels and meta carpels surface.

Once came some officers
Asking which side.
I say ask me.
Both side fell like flies.
Swatted by guns and canons
Old and young both.

Once I was a lush expanse
But now no green grows
Water falls but does not seem
For the blood has run deep.

I was there.
I am there
I remember
