Inspired by the arts scene in Johannesburg, Aaliyah has worked as both a performance poet and creative director
in arts education. As a graduate of English Literature (Wits University)
Aaliyah believes in the immense impact of the written and spoken word to inform
world views, particularly in interactions with her students. In 2014, she was
placed in the Top 8 for the Spoken Word for the World contest. Since, her work
has been published online with Odd Magazine and Poetry Potion, and
in print.
