Tenancy Rights

--- Sutanuka Ghosh Roy

Right in the morning

I serve them the eviction notice

and curtly tell them –

your tenancy rights come to an end

triumphant I leave for the office

in a mellow mood.

In the evening I gather my bones

 finish off the pending work

and snuggle into my warm pillow.

With a hot cup of coffee and a cool morning breeze

I stand on the verandah and mull over

the plan to spend a peaceful weekend.

A low cooing sound made me curious

I drag the high stool and crane my neck into

the ventilator and saw my tenants

unabashedly cuddling against each other.
