Prabal Basu

Prabal Basu is a well-known Bengali poet. He has seventeen volumes of poetry books to his credit. He has a collection of verse drama, three volumes of essays and two volumes of short stories to his credit. His poems have been widely translated into English and other languages. Apart from writing poetry Prabal Basu is associated in production of verse drama as well as performance poetry (poetry Ballet) since his young days. He organized creative meet on behalf P.E.N. in 1999 where creative artists participated and interacted. He is a founder trustee and was founder secretary of Kolkata International Foundation for Arts Literature and Culture. He has edited SIGNPOSTS, an anthology of Bengali Poetry since independence (pub. Rupa & Co.). He is the editor of Bengali magazine YAPANCHITRA, and mentor of Delhi based publishing house LOTUS FEET. He has participated in all India Poets meet in Mumbai, organized by Sahitya Akademy in 2004, 3rd Wellington International poetry Festival in 2005, was invited in Bangladesh and Tokyo and in Writers in Residency programme from The President of India house. He is the recipient of Gouri Bhattacharjee memorial award for his first book of poem ‘Tumeei Pratham’, recipient of State academy award for poetry for his poetry book ‘Jamon kore gaiche akash’ in 2005.
