Teesta the name of a river
         --- Aju Mukhopadhyay

Taken away from you in my teens
I don’t remember where I moved round since
days have passed by without you, Teesta!
How could I without you live on
my childhood companion
unless you carried me in your heart, Teesta!
Back home towards my journey’s end
 I have met you again
beloved Teesta!
Rambling through places under your sway
 moving through memory’s riparian days
 I’m always with you Teesta!
Holding my hand flowing through me
in my ebbing time inundating me
you always care for me, Teesta!
While on my way I have crossed Torsa
Rangeet and Mahananda
you saved me from drowning in them, Teesta!
If at all I’m drowned
it must be in your water sound
for an eternal rest in your womb, Teesta!

Throughout my journey
across the towns, forest and valley
Teesta flows either on my left or my right
sometimes turbulent sometimes quiet
violent in seasons otherwise peaceful
  but always keeping its cool.
Flowing through my veins
in dream and wakefulness
Teesta is a partner of my life
true to my belief!
