The Scenic Jhargram

Banani Ghosh

Below are the fascinating and thought-provoking photos captured by Banani Ghosh on her trip to Jhargram in West Bengal.

 (1)
River Dulung

1. The river Dulung is surrounded by forests and a diverse array of birds, monkeys and animals. In the winter, migratory birds also visit the place. In this picture, Banani Ghosh tries to capture the way the tribal people of Jhargram live in harmony with the flora and fauna of the region.

A big monkey family

2. The everyday life of a big fat monkey family. Banani Ghosh spotted this scene inside the premises of the Kanak Durga temple, Jhargram. The simian’s nonchalant reaction to the usual crowd of devotees interested Banani.

(3)
A termite hill

3. A magnificent termite hill. The cooperation that is exhibited between different species of fauna fascinates Banani Ghosh. Interestingly, when the termites abandon the mounds, they often become the habitation of snakes. Snakes get protection from the harsh weather and also from potential predators.

Plastic pollution

4. Through this pic, Banani Ghosh wants to illustrate humanity's corruption of nature and its effect on the flora and fauna of the region. In the photo, a red-vented bulbul, a resident breeder across the Indian subcontinent, is pecking at the plastic for food.

(5)
A squirrel

5. In Hinduism some trees are considered sacred and are worshipped by people. In the picture a squirrel is trying to grasp the fruit scattered by the devotees around the tree which is worshipped as a symbol of Devi Manasha.
