--- Anasuya Bhar

In the faded light of memory

Perhaps sepia-tinted, I see

A little girl waiting eager, for her dad –

The ‘clink’ on the gate,

And his slow gait,

Towards the steps where she sat.

Soon she nestles beside him

Listening to stories from far afar

Of wonder and miracles fantastic,

Warmed in the soft light of evening calm.

A wily school girl,

She waited still, upon his return

Wanting to share important snippets of her day,

With eager anticipation.

There was, however, mere annoyance –

‘I am too tired’ and

‘Haven’t I had enough of the day?’

Days, and more days

She withdrew into her silence.

The pale of darkness deepening around her

As she forayed into her years –

Weighted down, some day

She began to write

Her fears, worries or little triumphs.

Each time, such confidences brought a little spark

Of joy, strength and awareness

Deepening her conviction, now written

In black or blue, the colours of her solitude

Into pages stitched anew.
