I was in my laboratory.
A ray of light went through a prism.
White light broke into seven colours.
Refraction of light brought about the spectrum.
I measured the angles and micromilimetres of
refraction.
I walked into the world.
I saw light breaking into different forms
Friendship, love and hope.
I took out my measuring scale to measure them.
I failed…How could I have measured something which
is endless?
Light in our hearts
---
Paramita Mukherjee Mullick
Light in our hearts, what is that?
Our heart is a four chambered vital organ.
How can light be present there?
The left and right atria
And the left and right ventricles.
Why light? How can light be present there?
Yes, the aorta does carry life blood to all parts of
the body.
But it does not carry light.
Then how do we explain some strange happenings in
life?
A daughter hurrying back from work to be with her
ailing mother.
A husband working hard just to see a smile on his
family’s face.
A mother sacrificing her time and energy for her
children.
A friend going an extra mile for another friend.
Someone meeting a stranger and that stranger
becoming that someone’s ‘forever’.
That’s when the heart lights up.
Love and only love is the light in our hearts.
Sunlight on the grass
---
Paramita Mukherjee Mullick
The green lawn sparkling in the sunlight.
A few pigeons fly by and their shadows fall on the
grass.
The sunlight plays with leaves of the Frangipani
tree.
The shadow of the leaves dance on the grass.
It’s that time of the year when the dragon flies
hover on the grass.
The crows caw and the parrots screech.
And the green green grass glitters in the sun.
The poet walks barefoot on the sunlit grass.
The morning dew wetting her feet.
The sunlight on the grass adds a glitter to her being.
She soaks in the freshness of the morning.
She soaks in the glorious sunlight.
