 The Light of the Night

--- Sangeeta Dey (Roy)

On the cusp of dusk,

When the folds of the night arrives

From pale black

To deeper shades.

It’s enigmatic eyes pierces through the heart.

And layers mysterious strokes,

Soaking you in its being, with myriad hues

With its serenity and the hush balmy tone in the bruised soul.

Sometimes decked as a pretty bride

Whose eyes conjure majestic hues

Splashed with vibrancy,

The night air emanates a serenade.

Sometimes, it injects heavy laden swirls

In the coils of the heart,

Robbing colours and luminescence.

With looming, light squeezing shadows.

Sometimes it gyrates to rhythmic tunes

Allowing the fragrance of the night queens to flow in

And inebriate the sunken self

Inducing redolent stupor.

Sometimes it just sings a symphony

It’s musical cadence evoking nostalgia,

From the shadows of the past and yet

Stitching dreams with the fabric of hope.

The lady of the night, paints her pictures

With the colours of your choice,

Infuses light even with overcast skies.

For it emanates the grace emitted by your embrace.

So as the day wheezes by and melts into the night,

The mellifluous zephyr, devoid of harsh rays

Gathers more momentum, with its stretching arms.

Under the silvery bubbles of the night sky.

The light dots the Earth of the night,

You can inhale the aromatic petals, of the night’s apron.

Hear the whispers of the wind

As all resentment vapourizes by the light of the night.

Night often is a unmasked countenance,

Offering ascent to the eternal light,

Into a infinite realm, away from fleeting moments.

If only we know how to venture into the light of its arms.
