The Musical Bower

--- Hemanta Pramanik

The single shrub uprising rampant

among the green grass community,

spreading tender shoots around

as if a mother merrily telling

stories to her own dear children.

Small herbs and soft grasses

looking at her in wonder

as if they show obedience

to their only local guardian,

the senior among the minors.

The sprawling shrub looking

like a small bush densing

in brown branches with foliage,

pink-white flowers though small

but conspicuous brighten the greenery.

The shrub-turned bush alone

like a bower to small birdies,

they come often to sweet home

and fly to nearby frontiers

performing orchestra by the day.

How merrily they spend time!

Play pranks to others playfully

twittering and singing whole day,

transcending me in a sweet dream

to enjoy the bliss of the bower.

Oh! Hark, the cruel axer,

‘Who dares hurt own mother?’

Feel compassion to your envy,

prevent the default Satan searching

a dull desert on the green Earth.
