Shadow as Foreboding
--- Jayne Linke
Like a looming truck
when you’re on a bike.
The shadow enters your vision,
blocking sunlight and warmth.
You may kind of cringe …
but look – it’s the ice cream van!
Shadow Opposites
--- Jayne Linke
For a shadow to appear,
there must be some light, and the converse.
Light and shade are like black and white,
soft and hard, plump and frail, vivid and dull.
The world is cosmopolitan.
Shadow-chasing
--- Jayne Linke
Sparrows hopping idly -
are they shadow chasing or foraging?
Chasing a shadow is like
trying to knit a brick case.
What happens if you catch a shadow?
Would it escape, or howl?
Shadows are different in sunlight and moonlight.
Moonlight is a reflection of the sun – a star.
Starlight is subtle, a temporal shift.
Stars you see have actually stopped burning.
